There’s always something to celebrate, with several “Day of” events, for every day of the year! Here are events for the upcoming week, and I’ve found Excel templates and links for each of them!
Sun Jan 5, 2025 – National Bird Day
Bird watching is a popular activity, and you can get an Excel file with Clements checklist of Birds of the World, from the Cornell University site.
Or, download the American Ornithological Society’s (AOS) checklist of North and Middle American Birds. The file is in csv format, so you can open it in Excel, then save it in an Excel format.
And if you’d like to read a bird-watching mystery, I enjoyed the George and Molly series, by author Ann Cleeves. Her “Vera” series of books (Amazon link) features bird watching too. It’s my favourite mystery series!
Mon Jan 6, 2025 – National Bean Day
Accountants are sometimes called “bean counters”, so this is a good day to celebrate your love of spreadsheets!
For your supper, here’s a bean soup recipe that I love to make in the winter, after a long day of working in Excel. I put that recipe in my free weekly Excel meal planner, at least once a month!
Tue Jan 7, 2025 – Old Rock Day
On the GEOExcel site, you can download Dr. Ahmad Fahmi’s Excel spreadsheet for Rock Quality Designation (RQD) calculation.
- “Rock Quality Designation (RQD) measures the quality of rock cores from boreholes by calculating the percentage of core pieces longer than 10 cm.”
You can see a quick demo of the file on the GEOExcel YouTube channel.
Wed Jan 8, 2025 – National Bubble Bath Day
Bubbles and spreadsheets? Of course they go together!
On the Microsoft site, you can learn how to present your data in an Excel bubble chart.
And Jon Peltier shows how you can control the bubble sizes in those charts.
Thu Jan 9, 2025 – Balloon Ascension Day
Balloon Ascension Day commemorates the first manned balloon flight in the United States, on January 9, 1793. What connects balloons and spreadsheets?
There are several financial calculator templates on the Microsoft site, and one of them is for a Balloon Payment Loan.
And on the Vertex42 site, you can get a balloon loan calculator template, with notes on how to use it. There’s also a warning — “Beware of the consumer debt spiral!”
Fri Jan 10, 2025 – National Cut Your Energy Costs Day
Excel is the perfect tool for tracking and summarizing costs.
On the NERL site, you can download the Cost of Renewable Energy Spreadsheet Tool (CREST) files, in Excel format.
Or, download the Installed Cost Calculator Spreadsheet from the Australian government.
Sat Jan 11, 2025 – National Vision Board Day
If you’ve never heard of a vision board, the Psychology Today site explains what it is, and why you should make one. They usually feature images, but some people prefer text-based goals.
For a twist on the image-based boards, you can get my Excel Vision Board bingo template. It’s a fun way to track your goals!
You can see a quick demo of my vision board in the video below. And remember to reward yourself, every time you complete a line in the bingo board!
